I am always terrible at posting during the month of December, but I had a pretty good reason this year, which was that I got the flu about halfway through December and as of the first week of January am just now getting over it. YUCK. No wonder people die of this disease, it really kicks your @$$.
I guess the most exciting thing I should start with is my mom’s Christmas present. I don’t have pictures, but let me just say…y’all will end up liking this present as much as she does, mostly because it’s a compilation of all of her recipes from like 1985 and I put them all into a shutterfly book for her. As I make those recipes, and I will be making a lot of them, I’ll post the recipes here so you can enjoy them too! It was over 100 pages long (with multiple recipes on each page).
Christmas was pretty great, I got a baby tree for my place and decorated it per usual:
Except then it started to die before Christmas and I was a little bemused by it.
I made a couple of these for Christmas gifts.

But I ended up not liking the bow or ornaments so I erased those and it looked prettier.

I bought this clock for my apartment. I’m in the picture so you get an idea of how big it is (I’m 5’0″). I’m officially obsessed with clocks. I have three in sight just when you walk in the door and that’s not including the electronic clocks on my oven or Keurig.
But best of all?
I have wanted Prismacolor markers since I knew they existed (a few years ago, easy) but could never justify spending the money on them. So, I got a Hobby Lobby gift card for Christmas and decided to splurge. Just so I could play with the markers, I did some doodles in my sketchbook that turned into full-fledged artwork but OMG THE COLOR. I’ve got another one in the works which is more complicated and in depth and HAS LOTS OF WINGS so that one will take me a while but I’ll post it when I’m done.
The fairy I started a long time ago and didn’t like how she turned out so I actually had basically a coloring book page to work with but the second one is Ananya from my third book which I have not worked on (no judging, it’s a tricky book) and I really just wanted to scribble. 🙂
The next one I’m working on is a scene from the third book of Kitty and Ananya together out for a hunt. Should be great when I’m done.
We made these this weekend because we were running low on funds and didn’t want to order pizza. I liked our better anyway, and they were pretty easy. Beware though, the crust recipe takes at least an hour to rise!
1 1/3 cup warm water (or 2/3 cup water plus 2/3 cup milk, and don’t add powdered milk)
1 T sugar
1 T yeast
1/4 cup powdered milk
1/2 t. salt
2 T oil
4 cups flour
Put warm water into a bowl with sugar and yeast, stir and let sit for a few minutes until yeast is bubbly. Add salt, powdered milk, oil, and flour. Knead for a few minutes. Divide dough into 3 balls, press into circles, and place in oiled cake pans. Cover and let rise 1 1/2 hours. Cover with sauce and toppings. Bake at 450F for 15 minutes or until crust is browned.
We used pepperoni slices and mozzarella cheese (both block and string haha) and just some plain Ragu pizza sauce. The BF likes jalapeños so he got some on his half of one of the pizzas. 🙂
This crust is like Pizza Hut crust, it was amazing. I still have a third of the dough in my freezer for next time, we couldn’t eat three whole pizzas by ourselves!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! (I just really like this picture!)
I swear one of my New Years’ resolutions (on top of diet and exercise) is to post to the blog more regularly.
We did have a New Year’s party, but it was very low-key in comparison to some of our others, with the same bean dip I always make, the jolly rancher vodka from Halloween, and some champagne. We had champagne jell-O shots but the jury is still out on whether they were really good or not. We had just regular champagne at midnight.
Later this week I’ll post some more recipes and some more artwork, and maybe some DIYs. I have a New Year chalkboard right now but I don’t like it so I’m erasing and then putting up our menu for this week. Maybe I’ll post that along with the recipes! 🙂
